B.C.’s Green Party vetted 74 candidates in less than two weeks, but will not have enough for all 87 ridings after nominations closed Friday.
“We did not have the head start that the NDP had,” said B.C. Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau. “We did not have even the head start that the B.C. Liberal party had.”
The deadline for submitting candidate nominations was on Friday and Furstenau said the official number will be finalized once Elections BC provides its approval.
Elections B.C. says it will post finalized lists for candidates in all 87 electoral districts for the Oct. 24 vote as soon as possible.
Premier John Horgan’s election announcement on Sept. 21 gave parties less than two weeks to line up candidates.
“We started on the day that the election was called with no candidates nominated in any riding,” Furstenau said.
The NDP says it has nominated the highest number of women candidates in the provincial party's history.
The party says 53 per cent of its candidates are women and 25 per cent of its full slate are persons of colour.
