The Queensborough Residents’ Association’s all-candidates meeting is a go – with at least three candidates pledging to attend the event.
The QRA is holding an all-candidates meeting for the federal election candidates in the New Westminster- Burnaby-Maillardville riding on Wednesday, April 16. It’s will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Queensborough Community Centre, 920 Ewen Ave.
As of April 4, the residents’ association had confirmed the attendance of three candidates at the meeting: Peter Julian (NDP); Jake Sawatsky (Liberal); and Tara Shustarian (Greens).
In an April 4 email to the Record, the People’s Party of Canada said it does not currently have a candidate for this riding. Jonathan Sheardown, who had been cited as being the People’s Party of Canada candidate, is no longer a PPC candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville.
The status of a Conservative candidate still seems to be in flux, said the QRA.
Earlier this week the Conservative Party of Canada stated Lourence Singh was no longer the candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville, but Singh said he was appealing the decision and had launched an online petition. Later in the week, Singh’s campaign signs were still spotted in front of local residences and at the New Westminster SkyTrain station.
The Record has contacted the Conservative Party of Canada for an update.
Meanwhile, the Queensborough Residents’ Association hopes to hear from any candidates running in the riding who have not confirmed their attendance at the all-candidates meeting. Candidates can reach the QRA at [email protected].
