The choir will be onstage at Douglas College on Friday, Dec. 9 to help raise money for the college's Uganda Project.

The Uganda Project gives students a chance to travel abroad and learn, while contributing to a variety of relief agencies in their own field of study.

The fundraiser is happening in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre at the New Westminster campus, 700 Royal Ave.

There will be refreshments and a silent auction from 6: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. and a concert from 7: 30 to 9: 15 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for students or $25 for the general public.

Have you always had a hankering to write?

This is your chance. Write From the Heart drop-in sessions are ongoing at the Waves coffee shop on Columbia Street on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon.

The sessions are led by Ruth Kozak, who has been teaching writing classes since 1994 - including travel writing, novel writing, creative writing and memoir writing.

MASSEY MAGIC

There's no shortage of entertainment in the city over the next few weeks, thanks to Massey Theatre.

The theatre has a number of fun events coming up over the next while.

On Friday, Dec. 2, Fresh Groove Productions is bringing its Winter Groove 2011 to the stage for a 6: 30 p.m. performance. The show showcases the talents of young dancers, aged six to 21, in hip hop, street and break dancing.

Tickets are $21, or $18 for students and seniors.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, the ever-popular Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir and Winter Harp team up for a Christmas concert at 2: 30 p.m.

Tickets are $26, $29 and $34.

Then, on Friday, Dec. 9, it's the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra and Richmond Academy of Dance in their 12th annual Christmas dance concert - featuring, of course, music from The Nutcracker, among other selections.

That's at 7: 30 p.m., and admission is by donation.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, you can enjoy the Royal City Youth Ballet production of The Nutcracker, running at 1 and 4: 30 p.m.

Tickets are $24 for children or seniors, or $29 for adults.

VIVO SINGS

It's the most wonderful time of the year - and that means children singing.

Vivo Children's Choir is presenting its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Cathedral. Tickets can be purchased at the door - $10 regular, $8 for seniors and students, free for children under 12.

CAROLS AND BELLS

Get ready for the popular Carols and Bells concert at Queens Avenue United Church.

The annual Christmas favourite returns on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

It includes five handbell choirs from Burnaby, Chilliwack and New Westminster, as well as a carol sing-along with the audience.

Tickets are $20 regular, $15 for seniors and students or $10 for children. You can buy at the church office, 529 Queens Ave., or call 604-522-1606.

Also at Queens Avenue United Church, you can enjoy the church's handbell choirs at two morning services. The new youth handbell choir, Genesis, will ring on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 10: 15 a.m., before the morning service, and the adult handbell choir, the Memorial Bell Rings, will ring at 10: 15 a.m. on Dec. 11.
