The music of Ella Fitzgerald, Dolly Parton, Manhattan Transfer and more will be in the spotlight when New Westminster Secondary School offers up its Christmas choral concert.
The concert is set for Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at Massey Theatre.
It will feature performances by five NWSS choirs, including the senior and junior vocal jazz choirs, the chamber and concert choirs and a new ensemble, the NWSS girls' choir.
Choir director Kelly Proznick said students from grades 8 through 12 will perform songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Dolly Parton, Manhattan Transfer, Elton John, the Wailin' Jennys and more.
"Be ready to sing along with some seasonal classics," Proznick said. "The concert will end with a special song that will be sure to get you into the spirit of the season. You won't want to miss this concert."
The choral program is one facet of New Westminster Secondary's extensive music department. More than 300 students in all grades are registered in performance-based courses including concert bands, jazz bands, choirs, jazz combos and chamber ensembles, and another 250 to 300 students are enrolled in non-performance-based courses in guitar and music composition and technology.
Band and choir students participate in local and national festivals and also perform at community events throughout New Westminster.
Tickets are $7, available online through www.masseytheatre.com or by calling 604-521-5050.
Money raised supports the music program at New Westminster Secondary School.
