The spread and the fallout in B.C. from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to go deeper by the day, with several metrics reaching record levels.
The province lost 11 residents in the past 24 hours to the virus – the highest one-day total ever – pushing the death toll from COVID-19 to 310. The province once before, on April 13, announced 11 deaths, but that was for a two-day time period.
Future record numbers of deaths could be on the horizon, given that the number of people now in hospital with COVID-19 is at an all-time high of 198 – 17 more than the previous record of 181, which was set yesterday.
There are a record 6,589 people who are actively fighting infections out of the 23,661 people in the province who have been infected at some point since late January, when the virus first appeared in B.C.
Of those hospitalized, 63 are in intensive care units – more than we have seen since April 11. The vast majority of those infected have been told to stay home and self-isolate.
Fueling future rises in all of these metrics is the continual rise in the number of daily cases. There were a record 717 people identified as infected in the past 24 hours. That is 58 more people than the previous record of 659, set two days ago.
"Currently, 10,960 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and 16,469 people who tested positive have recovered," provincial health officer Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement.
There are also 293 infected people who are unaccounted for, with health officials saying that the most likely explanation is that they left the province without alerting authorities on their health status.
The Fraser Health Region continues to be the source for the majority of new infections.
In the past day, here is a breakdown of new infections by health region:
• 177 in Vancouver Coastal Health;
• 484 in Fraser Health;
• 16 in Island Health;
• 18 in Interior Health;
• 21 in Northern Health; and
• one person who resides outside Canada.
Henry and Dix said there are no new community outbreaks. One new outbreak in a seniors' home was at Tsawaayuss-Rainbow Gardens in Port Alberni.
There are 42 outbreaks at seniors' living facilities, including care homes, assisted-living facilites and other retirement homes.
The nine active outbreaks in those facilities in the Vancouver Coastal Health region include:
• Arbutus Care Centre in Vancouver;
• Banfield Pavilion, in Vancouver;
• Revera Capilano Care Centre in West Vancouver;
• Columbus Residence in Vancouver;
• Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge in Richmond;
• Holy Family Hospital in Vancouver;
• Louis Brier Home & Hospital in Vancouver;
• Royal Arch Masonic Home long-term care facility in Vancouver; and
• Three Links Care Centre long-term care facility in Vancouver;
The 28 outbreaks in those facilities in the ​Fraser Health region include:
• Agassiz Seniors Community in Agassiz;
• Al Hogg Pavilion in White Rock;
• Amenida Seniors Community in Surrey;
• Belvedere Care Centre in Coquitlam;
• Chartwell Langley Gardens in Langley;
• Dania Home in Burnaby;
• Evergreen Baptist Care Society long-term care facility in White Rock;
• Fellburn Care Centre long-term care facility in Burnaby;
• Finnish Manor in Burnaby;

There is one outbreak at a seniors' home in Northern Health, at the Rotary Manor Dawson Creek facility in Dawson Creek, and one outbreak in the Island Health Region, at Tsawaayuss-Rainbow Gardens in Port Alberni.
The Interior Health Region has three such outbreaks, at:
• Hamlets at Westsyde in Kamloops;
• Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna; and
• Village by the Station in Penticton.
