Former Vancouver Canuck Jake Virtanen is on the way out at his team in Switzerland.
Swiss newspaper Le Matin is reporting Virtanen got into an altercation with a teammate on Jan. 31 near the end of a game after he was benched.
The altercation ended with the other player, Daniel Eigenmann, going to management of EHC Visp, saying “it’s him or us (the team).”
Le Martin reported Virtanen became known on the team as a talented player who was more focused about scoring goals himself than winning games as a team. EHC Visp told the newspaper the team has placed Virtanen on the market.
Virtanen joined the team in the Swiss second division in November.
He was released by the Canucks in 2021 amid allegations of sexual assault that he was later acquitted of in court. He joined a team in Russia’s KHL for the 2021-22 season, but left the league alongside many other foreign players when Ukraine was invaded.
Virtanen scored 25 points in 21 games for EHC Visp, which are set to enter the playoffs next week without him.
