A Vancouver man is nearly $700,000 richer after he scratched a lottery ticket while doing laundry with his boyfriend.
Emmett O’Hara hit the jackpot when he scratched three identical cash symbols on a Set for Life Scratch & Win ticket, scoring him a whopping $675,000.
The Vancouver resident was given the ticket as a gift from a moving company after using its services, explains a BCLC news release. He was doing laundry with his boyfriend when he remembered he had a ticket to scratch.
“My boyfriend scratched the ticket and for a moment there was silence,” he recalled. “He was in complete shock. He showed me the ticket and I couldn't believe it.”
"I’m still in shock.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Real Canadian Superstore on Marine Drive and then gifted to O’Hara, who enjoys playing games with Quick Pick when he purchases them himself.
O’Hara immediately checked the ticket on his BCLC Lotto! app and discovered he was a winner.
“It feels crazy unreal. I’m still in shock,” he said.
As for what he plans to do with his prize, O’Hara has a few ideas, including potentially going back to school as well as purchasing a home.
