A car-jacking suspect is currently under guard at a local hospital after being shot by police while he was being arrested.
The incident started around 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, when a security guard called the police after an alleged carjacking near Science World.
"[The security guard] reported that a stranger, armed with a knife and a broken glass bottle, had stolen his car near Prior and Milross streets," states the VPD in a press release.
The stranger then allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle.
"VPD officers located the vehicle and a driver near Slocan Street and East 23rd Avenue approximately 25 minutes after the robbery," state police.
It was at this point the suspect was shot according to the VPD, but details about what occurred haven't been shared.
"The police-involved shooting occurred as the officers were taking the driver, who was considered armed and dangerous, into custody," states the VPD.
As of Sunday morning, the suspect remains at a local hospital under police guard. He has an injured arm, according to the VPD. No officers were injured during the incident.
The suspect will face several charges, according to the police, including weapons and driving charges. The suspect has not been identified.
B.C.'s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office, has been alerted to the incident and is expected to investigate.
