More than 300 students laid poppies at gravestones in the military section of the Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster Monday morning to honour fallen soldiers.
The event was part of No Stone Left Alone, a recent national tradition that sees students go beyond the typical Remembrance Day ceremony and actually visit the graves of veterans. In doing so, students were asked to consider the age and sacrifices of the fallen.
The tradition has been growing in New Westminster – in 2018, just 101 students from Richard McBride Elementary School attended the event. This year, more than 300 students attended from Richard McBride and Herbert Spencer elementary schools.
