Prepare to keep your child home from school for 14 days after your return, if they're not fully vaccinated

If you're planning to travel internationally with kids over the winter break, take note of federal restrictions around their return to school after your return to Canada.

Planning to travel internationally over the holidays? If you have a child in school, you're being asked to take note of restrictions.

The New Westminster school district sent out a letter Monday (Nov. 29) reminding families of international restrictions around non-essential travel.

The key takeaway for those with kids in school? International travel (by land, sea or air) could mean needing to keep your child home from school. As per federal regulations, any student who is not fully vaccinated, even those under the age of 12 who are travelling with fully vaccinated adults, may not attend school (or camp or daycare) within 14 days of their return to Canada.

"If you decide to travel internationally while these restrictions are in place, please coordinate with your teacher or school in advance of your trip, to ensure your child stays on top of their school work while they are away and for the 14 days following their return," the letter says.

The letter also provides families with links for further information about travel and health guidelines:
