The Forum for Millennial Leadership wants you to know that 31 candidates under 40 were elected as mayors and councillors in the weekend’s election – 26 in Metro Vancouver and five in the Fraser Valley.
New Westminster Mayor Jonathan Cote, 39, and councillor-elect Nadine Nakagawa, 35, made the list.
“Between Metro Vancouver and the FVRD, a total of 100 candidates under 40 ran in Saturday's elections,” said an email from the group. “Progress was made toward electing younger municipal officials, but there is still a long way to go before young people are adequately represented in a region that is among the largest concentrations of millennials in Canada.”
