New Westminster-Burnaby Green Party candidate Suzanne de Montigny has filed a complaint with Elections Canada regarding a call she received from a polling company.
De Montigny was shocked by the line of questioning in an Oct. 16 call she received from a research firm in Alberta.
“It very quickly turned into a smear of Elizabeth May, under the guise of a survey,” she told the Record. “Do you agree, completely agree – that kind of thing. It started saying things like: ‘What do you think of Elizabeth May not having a health plan?’ I said, that’s not true, she has a real health plan. They kept saying, ‘What do you think about this?’ It was lies, straight-out lies. I said, ‘this is a smear campaign.”
De Montigny said the survey seemed to smear May by providing “misinformation” and to praise NDP leader Jagmeet Singh.
“I reported them to Elections Canada,” she said. “I was just furious.”
