New year, new format, and now a new hot sheet featuring the 30 top Chinese restaurants in Metro Vancouver ahead of the 2024 Chinese Restaurant Awards.
For its 15th year, the prestigious Chinese Restaurant Awards has shaken up its format and returned after a one-year hiatus with a tastebud-teasing "longlist" representing the judges' picks for the top dining experiences in the city.
“Our Top 30 longlist this year truly showcases the rich diversity of Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine in Metro Vancouver,” said Lee Man, judging panel chair, Chinese Restaurant Awards, in an October 22, 2024 media release announcing the restaurant winners. “From Cantonese, Jiangnan, Northern Chinese, to Hunan, and Sichuan, our 2024 list reflects the culinary trends and vibrant dining scene in our region. We are lucky to have so many incredible choices.”
Man was among the 18-judge panel of diners who ate their way across Metro Vancouver to come up with their expert selections for where to enjoy dine-in Chinese meals as well as Taiwanese cuisine, food court stalls, Cantonese BBQ eateries, dessert shops, and café-style venues.
From this impressive list representing an array of culinary achievements and excellence, there will be an "Elite 15," which will be revealed at an in-person awards ceremony on November 5. During the event, the Chinese Restaurant Awards will also honour the recipients of a slate of special designations such as the Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards; Best New Restaurant of the Year; Master Chef of the Year; Dim Sum Chef of the Year; Rising Star Chef of the Year; and Elite Service Crew Member of the Year.
