It took just two hours for Burnaby RCMP to pull over 112 drivers who hadn’t properly cleared the snow off their vehicles this week.
Officers set up in the area of Broadway and North Road Monday morning, according to a post on the detachment’s X account.
“Leaving snow on your vehicle, including the windshield/windows/roof creates safety hazards for all road users and could result in being ticketed,” stated the post.
With more snow and cold weather in the forecast, police are urging people to clear off their vehicles.
Monday was “all about education” so officers didn’t write any tickets, according to Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj, but that stopped Tuesday.
“Today already we started writing tickets because the message has not been heard,” Kalanj told the Burnaby NOW.
During enforcement Tuesday, he said officers encountered a driver in the area of Bainbridge Avenue and Lougheed Highway going 12 kilometres per hour in a 50 km/h zone with his car's windshield almost entirely covered with snow.
There was a 10-car lineup following behind, according to Kalanj.
“His excuse was that he driving to the store to buy a brush,” Kalanj said.
The man was issued a $109 ticket and two points on his driving record.
He also wasn't allowed to drive away until the car was properly cleared.
