Jim Sinclair is no longer leading Fraser Health’s board of directors.
Fraser Health announced the retirement as the board chair on Monday.
Sinclair had been serving as board chair since 2017. Sinclair is also a former president of the B.C. Federation of Labour, from 1999 to 2014.
"I want to share my immense respect and gratitude for the Fraser Health executive team and all the people who deliver health care for two million Fraser Health residents every day,” Sinclair said in a Fraser Health news release which said Sinclair had completed his term on the board and was retiring.
Fraser Health is now trying to make permanent hires for the two top jobs at the authority.
Sinclair’s departure closely follows that of Dr. Victoria Lee, former president and CEO of Fraser Health, who left on Feb. 18.
Lee’s departure was “mutually agreed,” upon to pursue other opportunities.
Dr. Lynn Stevenson will serve as Fraser Health’s interim CEO and president until that position is filled, while Fraser Health board vice-chair Opreet Kang will serve as interim board chair for a year.
Work continues to find a new, permanent CEO and president of Fraser Health.
Kang has been on the Fraser Health board since 2017.
“Global health-care worker shortages are impacting our communities and while we continue to hire hundreds more health-care workers into Fraser Health, there is more work to do, to build a system of care that reflects the communities we serve, and that is there for people when they need it,” she said in a release.
She said in the coming weeks, the board will work to support health-care workers, strengthen services “and recruiting a permanent president and CEO as quickly as possible.”
