There are festivals, sports and entertainment options galore to fill your summer days (and nights) in New West. Here’s a look at some of July’s offerings:
Mondays
Monday Music in The Park, now in its third year, is an outdoor music series taking place beside Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park. It’s on Mondays (until Aug. 14) from 6 to 8 p.m. Performers include: July 10 – Mike Van Eyes Band; July 17 – Dogwood & The Shakers; July 24 – Kelly Haigh & Jimmy Roy.
Wednesdays
Starting July 5, Royal City Literary Arts Society presents Poetry in the Park every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Queen’s Park Bandshell. Each week’s event features two poets and an open mic. The series runs until Aug. 30.
Thursdays
The New West Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. in Tipperary Park (315 Queens Ave.), next to New Westminster City Hall. Fresh produce, prepared foods and alcohol are among the offerings at this family-friendly event that also includes live music and food trucks.
Fridays
Fridays on Front returns to downtown New Westminster for six Fridays this summer, including July 7 (a Summer Kickoff theme), July 14 (Celebrating East Asia) and July 21 (Bollywood Bash). It happens on the Front Street Mews (600 block of Front Street) from 5 to 9 p.m. Other dates include Aug. 11 (Throwing it Back theme), Aug. 18 (Pride) and Aug. 25 (The Last Act).
Thursday, July 6
The New Westminster Sr. A Salmonbellies, currently ranked Number 2 in Western Lacrosse Association standings, take on the WLA’s current league leader, the Langley Thunder, at Queen’s Park Arena on Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and info at Salmonbellies.com.
Quayside Voices perform at the Queen’s Park Concert Series on Thursday, July 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Queen’s Park Bandshell. Details about all of this summer’s concerts can be found at www.newwestcity.ca/queens-park-concerts.
Saturday, July 8
The second annual On Your Block multicultural festival returns to Tipperary Park on Saturday, July 8 from 1 to 9 p.m. It features live entertainment, more than 50 local vendors, arts and crafts, food trucks, and more.
Saturday, July 15
TD Uptown Live Street Party returns to New West on Saturday, July 15 from noon to 8 p.m. The festival, taking place in the uptown New Westminster business area around Sixth Avenue and Sixth Street, includes live music on multiple stages, a kid’s zone, exhibitors, food vendors and artisans.
The Run N Gun 48hr Film Competition and Festival, an indie filmmaking competition, is hosting its festival finale at Massey Theatre. The day-long event – a celebration of film and creativity – includes screenings, mixers, an awards show, and an after-party. Tickets and info at www.masseytheatre.com.
Sunday, July 16
The Grapest Drag Show on Earth (in support of Rainbow Refugee) is a night of drag, wine and fundraising. The event is being held at Pacific Breeze Winery, with doors opening at 3 p.m. and the show beginning at 4 p.m. Rainbow Refugee provides support and information to people who are fleeing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identify, gender expression or HIV status. Thursday, July 20
Take it to the Limit, an Eagles tribute show, comes to the Massey Theatre stage on Thursday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and info at www.masseytheatre.com.

Saturday, July 22
Fiery Friend and Foe is the theme of this month’s Super Saturday at Fraser River Discovery Centre - exploring how fire is an essential and healthy part of the river ecosystem and how it can also have some devastating impacts. Super Saturday is on Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr. Tickets are: $15 for a family of two adults and two children; $6 for an adult 19 or older; $5 for seniors 65 and older; $5 for students – ID required ; $3 or children aged three to 12. Children two and under are free, and all tickets include admission to Discovery Centre.
Thursday, July 27
The New Westminster Sr. A Salmonbellies wrap up their 2023 regular season’s home games on Thursday, July 27 when they’ll take on the Maple Ridge Burrards at 7:30 p.m. at Queen’s Park Arena. Tickets are available at the box office or online at Salmonbellies.com.
