New Costco planned for Metro Vancouver

If approved, the new massive store will be built in South Surrey

Big-box store Costco is planning to add a new location in Metro Vancouver.

Development plans for a new location in South Surrey have been posted and indicate a brand new structure will be built.

The new store would be located at 1947 164 St., between 18th and 20th Avenues.

Drawings for the site show the proposed Costco, a large parking lot, a gas station and two other buildings, including one designated as "retail."

The Washington state-based brand has around 100 locations across Canada; currently there are seven in Metro Vancouver with an eighth in Abbotsford. The closest locations to the newly proposed spot are north of Langley and in central Surrey.

The site of the proposed store is mostly forest right now, with some residences along 18th Avenue; those properties appear to remain in the site proposal. New multi-family residences have been built in the area of the proposed Costco over the last few years.

Currently, the project is in its early stages. The concept site plan has been submitted to the city, a Surrey city staff member tells V.I.A. Costco is planning to go to council this autumn.
