Sabrina, old cat
Aw, give poor Sabrina a break. You might look a little tired and grumpy too if you were 116 years old (or the cat equivalent of 25).

It wasn’t quite the Golden Girls, but Sabrina did have many golden moments.

The 25-year-old cat (that’s the equivalent of 116 years in human years) spent the last three years of her life living the good life in a home in the West End.

“This cat was the sweetest and most affectionate old lady cat I have ever had the fortune to form a bond with and I sorely miss her,” Frank Norman wrote in an email to the Record.

Norman and Heather MacKenzie adopted Sabrina when she was 22 years old. The couple found her at the Seattle Humane Society, but they didn’t adopt her right away, Norman told the Record last month.

They were worried she’d need a lot of medical attention, considering her age, but her file seemed to indicate otherwise, so they decided to go for it, he said.

And the benefits of getting an older cat are plenty, Norman said, but there is one thing in particular that makes them extra special.

“One of the good things about adopting a senior cat is you know what you’re getting. You go out there and get a kitten, you don’t know what kind of character that kitten is going to have or develop. You don’t know if it’s going to be friendly or just one of those cats that doesn’t really want to be friendly,” he said.

For the most part, Sabrina was a healthy senior. She had a bit of arthritis and gingivitis but no major health problems.

She passed away on Friday “at the age of 25 years, three months and 10 days after a short and rapid decline in health,” Norman said.

The longest-living cat ever, according to Guinness World Records, was a cat from Texas named Creme Puff who lived to be 38 years old.
