The B.C. Association for Community Living is seeking used art for its Reason to Care art resale and live auction fundraising event.
New Westminster resident Richard McDonald is among the people who are hard at work promoting the event, which will be held on March 3 at Heritage Hall in Vancouver. Funds raised at the event will support the B.C. Association for Community Living, which advocates for children and youth with special needs, adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
Donations of framed posters, prints, photographs and original works of art are appreciated. They can be dropped off at the association's office at 227 Sixth St., Monday to Friday between 8: 30 a.m. and 4: 30 p.m.
Melissa Bennett Knights, special events coordinator, said the association held its first art sale last year.
"We made $25,000, which was very exciting," she said. "It was a real success."
Bennett Knights said more valuable pieces are typically part of the evening's silent auction, while the other donated artwork is sold during the day.
"We sell things from $1 or $2 up to a few hundred dollars," she said of the daytime sale. "At the live auction, prices could be higher."
Any preloved art - whether it's a velvet Elvis or a Vincent van Gogh painting - will be accepted for the event.
"It's a fun event," she said. "We have sold some really unusual pieces."
The art sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The evening reception gets underway at 6 p.m., and the live auction starts at 7: 30 p.m. Both events are free, but donations to the association are appreciated.
