HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Family and friends recently gathered to celebrate Mary Holowaychuk's 95th birthday.

Daughter and son-in-law Marion and Bob Osterman hosted a gathering at Royal City Manor in honour of Holowaychuk's birthday. She's lived in New Westminster since retiring at the age of 65.

"At Knox Church she is known as the Pie Lady," Bob notes. "She used to cook up to 25 pies for their spring tea."

Family and friends, including those from the Legion and Knox Presbyterian, attended the March 24 party.

GALLERY INVITE

The New Westminster Photography Club is inviting residents to drop by its temporary gallery to get some artwork at great prices.

"The New Westminster Photography Club is opening its own gallery," said Justin Ball, a New Westminster resident and the club's outings director. "It is only short-term."

For one week beginning on May 4 at 8 p.m., the club is leasing space for a temporary gallery from the Edmonds Art Gallery, which is located at 726 12th St.

Ball encourages residents to drop by and check out the works of some "soon-to-be famous artists" and to get some deals on artwork - prints start at $20, and nothing will be priced over $100.

The club is open to anyone interested in photographer, regardless of their skill level.

SUPPORT SOUGHT

A group of youth involved in a leadership program at the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House is organizing a fundraiser to help sexually exploited trafficking victims.

The teens are holding a fashion show and silent art auction in Saturday, May 5 in New Westminster. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to Deborah's Gate, a Salvation Army safe house for women who have been trafficked for prostitution.

The teens are looking for art from students 19 or younger, as the work will be on display during Youth Week, but all designers are welcome to showcase their ware. The group is also looking for snacks, refreshments, DJs and decorations.

The fundraiser is set for May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 612 Columbia St. Westminster. Contact Marleen Eberding at [email protected] to get involved.
