Families are invited to celebrate Summer Discovery Days at Fraser River Discovery Centre on the Labour Day long weekend.

Fraser River Discovery Centre is focusing on the changing colours of the seasons at its final Summer Discovery Days event of the year.

On long weekends throughout the summer, Fraser River Discovery Centre has been providing a variety family-friendly activities based on different themes.

“Long weekends in the summer months are extra special, and we wanted to help people celebrate them,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “Our Summer Discovery Day will help, and they continue on the Labour Day long weekend as we focus on the changing colours of the seasons.”

A press release from FRDC states that colours can help people understand and visualize the way things change, such as the seasonal shift of summer flowers to fall hues, to the eras and events that can be seen in the layers beneath our feet.

On the Labour Day long weekend, FRDC staff will help visitors investigate why salmon turn red, or how the Fraser River becomes so brown. Activities will include:

*Learning about the hidden layers beneath your feet by making a stratigraphy model;

*Creating your own salmon artwork using simple print making techniques; and

*Investigating why the Fraser River water looks so different from the Strait of Georgia it empties into.

Summer Discovery Days run from Saturday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr. Details about the event and COVID-19 safety protocols that are in place, as well as registration, is at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org.
