Walk-up service is now being served up at a Canada Day food truck event in New West.
Guy Ciprian of Savi Integrated Marketing said organizers of the bi-weekly drive-thu food truck events in Sapperton have been working with the City of New Westminster to host a special food truck event on Canada Day. It’s taking place on Thursday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the old New Westminster Secondary School site, at the corner of Eighth Street and 10th Avenue.
“Enjoy a variety of food options at this food truck experience. Pick up your food, bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic on the nearby grass field, at a local park or at home,” said a notice on the city’s website. “There will be something for everyone from desserts to snacks to meals.”
All About the Grill, Aloha Poke, Dim Sum Express, Fusion Icy, Hunky Bills, Lemon Heaven, TLC Poutine and Mini Donut Factory are participating in the event.
Parking is available at the old New Westminster Secondary School, and can be accessed from Eighth Street near Dublin Avenue. The entrance will be located on Tenth Avenue.
The City of New Westminster encourages people to walk or ride to the event, and to enjoy an outdoor picnic.
The ongoing Braid StrEAT Food Truck Drive-Thru events take place at 97 Braid St. (next to the Braid SkyTrain station) bi-weekly on weekends through the summer.
“We recognize that as the PHO (public health order) changes and other options become open to the public that a drive-thru event could become less appealing. So, we are currently working with city staff to pivot and hopefully adapt to an in-person food truck event for the summer months,” Ciprian said. “I speak for everyone involved when I say that we are very grateful for the support that we have received from the City of New Westminster, Fraser Health, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, the community and Quad Real Property Group. I say this on behalf of all the food truck owners, their staff and the many young people who have benefited from working at the events.”
