Fraser River Discovery Centre is opening its doors for free all weekend long in celebration of Family Day.
This weekend, FRDC will be hosting a variety of free, fun, family-friendly crafts, games, and activities all related to the Fraser River.
“During these difficult times, family is more important than ever,” said Stephen Bruyneel, FRDC’s director of external relations and development. “So, we have decided to be open the entire B.C. Family Day long weekend to offer a range of activities – all of them free.”
From Saturday, Feb. 13 through Monday, Feb. 15, families are invited to visit the centre on New Westminster’s waterfront and have fun learning about: the tracks and replica skulls of some of B.C.’s most iconic wildlife; the Fraser’s wild Pacific salmon (while creating your own using simple origami techniques); and the river’s underwater world using DIY waterscopes. Visitors will also learn about the Fraser estuary’s seabird population (with a Bing-Gull game) and check out FRDC’s exhibits as part of its gallery scavenger hunt.
“These activities – like everything at the FRDC – will also be done safely,” Bruyneel stressed. “All activities will meet the requirements of our COVID-19 health and safety plan, which include pre-registration, limited group sizes, timed visits, physical distancing and the need to wear masks at all times.”
Fraser River Discovery Centre is located at 788 Quayside Dr., next to River Market. It provides a variety of exhibits and programs related to the Fraser River.
