Summer fun continues in New West in August with a great line-up of festivals and ongoing events.

Saturday, Aug. 5 and Sunday, Aug. 6

Queen’s Park concert series presents Shakespeare in the Park with As You Like It, a performance by the Shadows and Dreams theatre company. Shows are from 2 to 3 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 7

Monday Music in the Park, 6 to 8 p.m., outside Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park. The Top Boost will perform their catchy psychedelic jangle-pop.

Friday, Aug. 11

Fridays on Front takes place on the Front Street Mews (600 block of Front Street) from 5 to 9 p.m. Includes live entertainment, artisans and food and beverage options. This week’s theme is Throwing It Back.

Sunday, Aug. 13

Queen’s Park Concert Series features Zox of the Forest on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Queen’s Park Bandshell.

Monday, Aug. 14

Monday Music in the Park, 6 to 8 p.m., outside Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park. Tonight’s performer is No Fun, who have been performing and creating acclaimed albums since 1974.

Friday, Aug. 18

Fridays on Front takes place on the Front Street Mews (600 block of Front Street) from 5 to 9 p.m. This week’s theme is Pride.

Saturday Aug. 19

New West Pride street festival returns to Columbia Street, featuring live entertainment on three stages, roving entertainment on Columbia Street, food trucks, vendors, a Family Zone and more. Saturday, Aug. 19

Untoxicated 2023 New West Pride takes place at Anvil Centre. Performances by Fallen starts at 4 p.m. and drag show starts at 5:30 p.m. For people in recovery, the sober curious community, allies, and friends. This is a standing event, with some seating (no guaranteed seating). Featuring: Monet Exchange; Miss Vanjie; Jaida Essence Hall; Lady Camden; Icesis Couture; Morgan McMichaels; Kaos; Toddy; Jaylene Tyme; Alma Bitches; Mina Mercury; Xanax; Fallen Stars; and Dj Lejo. Friday, Aug. 25

Fridays on Front wraps up for 2023 with an evening of entertainment, food and beverage offerings, artisans. Today’s theme is The Last Act. It’s happening in downtown New Westminster on the Front Street Mews (600 block of Front Street) from 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 26

New Westminster Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival 2023 is from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on New Westminster’s riverfront boardwalk. The day’s fun includes artisan market vendors and exhibitors, live entertainment and food. A fireworks display will light up the skies over the Fraser River between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 27

Rhythm Resources performs at the Queen’s Park Concert Series on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Queen’s Park bandshell.

Wednesdays

Poetry in the Park is in the Queen’s Park bandshell from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each weekly session will feature two poets and an open mic. Runs every Wednesday until Aug. 30.

Thursdays

The New West Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. in Tipperary Park (315 Queens Ave.), next to New Westminster City Hall. Fresh produce, prepared foods and alcohol are among the offerings at this family-friendly event that also includes live music and food trucks.
