Stinging nettles and sound baths are among the upcoming offerings for adults at Fraser River Discovery Centre.

Based on the success of a program that was offered to adults in the summer, Fraser River Discovery Centre is launching a series of workshops for adult audiences. The workshops will often feature guest presenters who will share their knowledge on a variety of topics.

“This summer, we held a drawing workshop for adults with a local artist and it was a hit,” said FRDC executive director Karen Lee. “We already have more workshops planned for the rest of the year.”

The next workshop for adults is on Saturday, Oct. 19, when Musqueam educator Kymberlee Stogan will lead a Stinging Nettles workshop where folks can learn about the medicinal and food uses of stinging nettles. Participants will sample nettle tea and take home a sample of nettle salve.

“This is unique opportunity for participants to connect with nature and expand their knowledge of herbal remedies,” said a notice about the workshop.

On Friday, Nov. 15, the centre will host a Full Moon Sound Bath, which will feature a guided full moon meditation with sound bath, using vibration to induce a meditative state of deep relaxation. During the session, being held in collaboration with Yoga at the Quay, participants will set intentions to support their goals.

Located at 788 Quayside Dr. (next to River Market on New Westminster’s waterfront), Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of programs and exhibits related to many different aspects of the Fraser River.
