LITERARY HONOUR

New Westminster's own JJ Lee has earned another honour for his book The Measure of a Man: The Story of a Father, a Son and a Suit.

Lee is among the finalists for the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary NonFiction, announced on Jan. 10.

The prize is awarded to the author "whose book best combines a superb command of the English language, an elegance of style, and a subtlety of thought and perception," according to the prize website.

He's among five chosen authors from an original list of 115, which was whit-tled down to a long-list of 11 in December.

The Measure of a Man, published by McClelland & Stewart, goes up against four other offerings for the prize that will be announced on March 5: Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest, by Wade Davis; Eating Dirt: Deep Forests, Big Timber, and Life with the Tree-Planting Tribe, by Charlotte Gill; Afflictions and Departures: Essays, by Madeline Sonik; and The Chimps of Fauna Sanctuary: A Canadian Story of Resilience and Recovery, by Andrew Westoll.

The winner will receive $25,000 and the runners-up $2,000 apiece.
