The New Westminster Horticultural Society’s annual plant sale was a rousing success.
The society, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2019, held its annual plant sale on May 4 at New Westminster Secondary School.
“It was quite the horde at the start. Some people lined up a half hour early but, in fairness to those who arrived at our stated starting time of 10 a.m., we did not open early,” said longtime member Audrey Barnes. “The sale was a great success. We were sold out by 2 p.m. We think it boils down to us having good plants and people knowing our plants are good.”
While leftover plants are usually sold at a mini plant sale for members at the club’s first meeting after the sale, gardeners aren’t totally out of luck.
“Not all plants are ready for our public spring plant sale. Throughout the year, members bring in what they want to share from their gardens,” Barnes said. “These sales have proven very popular with the membership – another reason to become a NWHS member.”
Anyone interested in joining the New Westminster Horticultural Society is invited to attend its next meeting, which is on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park.
