What’s happening?
PechaKucha New West returns to New West for Volume 32 on Saturday, Nov. 4. It’s taking place in the second floor gallery of Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr.
What is PechaKucha?
Started in Tokyo in 2003, Pecha Kucha has spread to more than a thousand cities around the world. It features 10 speakers doing presentations on an eclectic lineup of topics using 20 images, each lasting 20 seconds.
“That's a total of six-minutes-and-40-seconds each, kind of like show-and-tell for grown-ups!” said a notice about the event.
Through their words and images, presenters share their passions and stories.
Who is presenting at Volume 32?
The complete speakers’ list and speakers’ biographies have yet to be released, but here are five of the folks who are scheduled to speak at the Nov. 4 event: Bob Crockett, president of Arts New West; Marian Demian; Jedro Magtoto, an entrepreneur, content creator and the author of Thank You, Cancer: A Memoir: Motivation in the Face of Adversity: Stories From My Life Before, During and After My Journey with Brain Cancer; Dr. Jason Marr, a licensed naturopathic doctor; and Rachel Thexton, a podcaster and public relations professional.
More to come.

"We are very pleased to host PechaKucha at the FRDC,” said Stephen Bruyneel, FRDC’s director of external relations and development. “Public engagement and dialogue are two key priorities for us, so anything that encourages those we are happy to support."
The doors open at 7 p.m. and the presentations will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12.
When did PechaKucha start in New West?
Volume 31 – which celebrated its 10th anniversary in New Westminster – was first held in January 2013. New West residents Neal and Melinda Michael had been attending the Vancouver PechaKucha group and wanted to create an event that could celebrate local culture and inspire New West residents to indulge in their own passions.
