The Uptown Plaza is set to sparkle during the new Snowflake Spectacular.
Part of this year’s Shine Bright New West, Snowflake Spectacular events are being held in the Uptown Plaza (at Sixth and Belmont streets) on two Fridays this month – Dec. 8 and 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. White lights already adorn the plaza as part of Shine Bright New West.
Jennifer Bolcsfoldi, the city’s acting program coordinator of special events, said Snowflake Spectacular is a whimsical interactive pop-up snowflake wonderland with live performances of music and dance, a giant magical snow globe, and special snowflake activities. Entertainment includes dancers Kaleah Crump, Jessica Keeling, Nasiv Salle and Alex Shigetomi, and musicians Krystle Dos Santos and more.
“It is designed to spread joy and love for the holiday season. The event has no admission and it is barrier free, so we invite everyone to come and bring their family and friends,” Bolcsfoldi said in an email to the record. “We are so excited about this new partnership with the Small Stage and Uptown Business Association to bring unique opportunity to New Westminster.”
Attendees at the inaugural Snowflake Spectacular event on Dec. 8 will include Phillip Fitzpatrick, a contestant on The Price is Right, who is visiting New Westminster from Dec. 5 to 9.
Shine Bright New West features activities, cultural experiences and illuminated outdoor spaces, including the Wishing Tree in Moody Park and Gardens of Light in various parks and open spaces in the city. It runs from Dec. 1 to 31 in neighbourhoods across New Westminster.
