Openings are available for programs for youngsters and parents that are getting underway in May.
Family Services of Greater Vancouver provides a variety of programs for local families. Here are some of the programs that will soon begin:
* Creative Explorations will give young children a chance to explore their creative selves through arts and crafts, songs and stories. It’s taking place on Mondays from May 2 to June 20, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at Olivet Church, 613 Queens Ave. (Bus tickets will be provided.)
* Parents Connect is a program that gives parents of children aged zero to six years of age an opportunity to connect with other parents and participate in guided discussions. It’s on Fridays from May 13 to June 24, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at Olivet Church. (Bus tickets will be provided and childminding is available.)
* Single Moms Support Group is a gathering of moms who are raising children on their own – giving them a chance to connect with other moms about the joys and challenges of solo parenting and to learn about community resources. It runs on Wednesdays from May 4 to June 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Olivet Church. (Bus tickets will be provided and childminding is available.)
Neighbourhood grants available
If you need some help bringing a community project to life, the Neighbourhood Small Grants program can help.
Community members are invited to apply for a small grant of up to $500 to help develop local programs. Applications for the Neighbourhood Small Grants program are being accepted until the end of April.
“With a Neighbourhood Small Grant, you join our network of thousands of project leaders who have taken steps to better their neighbourhoods,” said a notice about the program.
