It’s that time of year again.
New Westminster police are once again urging residents to secure their doors and windows to deter criminals from breaking and entering.
Police say officers have been called to several break-and-enters where the suspects were able to gain access into the home through an opened window or unlocked door. While the recent break-ins have been isolated to the Sapperton area, residents from other areas in the city should be vigilant as well, according to police.
“With the warm summer weather, we want to remind the public to ensure their residences are secured,” acting Sgt. Jeff Scott, spokesperson for the department, said in a press release. “Even if you’re in the backyard having a barbecue or mowing the lawn, it’s a good idea to lock your front door to have the peace of mind that your property is secure. We strive to continue having one of the safest and most livable communities in the Lower Mainland.”
