You can find out how bats, butterflies and other pollinators contribute to the health of the Fraser River at next weekend’s Super Saturday’s event in New West.
Fraser River Discovery Centre’s next Super Saturdays will focus on Fraser River pollinators. Super Saturdays is a regular series of public programs at Discovery Centre that celebrate the living, working Fraser River.
“Early spring is a wonderful time to get to know the bats, butterflies, and even hummingbirds that are hard at work,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “Without them, plant life in the Fraser River basin would have a very hard time growing fruits or seeds.”
At the April 22 event, Fraser River Discovery Centre staff will help guests learn about the world of pollinators. Activities will include: modelling pollination in action to observe how flowers and pollinators work together; getting to know local pollinator species; and decorating a mini pollinator pond to take home.
This month’s Super Saturdays is open to families with children of all ages.
Super Saturdays, taking place on the last Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a series of public programs geared toward family-friendly activities, all focused on a different Fraser River topic each month. Past topics have included salmon, tugboats and migratory birds.
Located at 788 Quayside Dr. on New Westminster’s waterfront, Fraser River Discovery Centre has a variety of exhibits and programs related to the Mighty Fraser.
Tickets for Super Saturdays include paid admission to the Discovery Centre (there’s no charge for annual members). Information about the admission and the centre’s COVID-19 safety protocols is available at www.fraserriverdiscovery.org.
