St. Barnabas Church is hoping it's flooded with folks for its upcoming trivia night fundraiser.

The church, located at 1010 Fifth Ave., is trying to raise funds to help cover a $16,000 debt incurred after part of the building's roof had to be replaced.

"The reason we are doing it is in the snowstorm before Christmas, we had terrific leaks," said Roxee Forrest, the church's associate warden. "To keep us going, we have to pay off this debt."

In addition to the roof, the church also had to replace some walls that sustained water damage.

Despite the damage, the congregation insisted the annual Christmas Day community dinner proceed.

While there have been some minor leaks in the aging roof during heavy rains, the snowfall that occurred before Christmas 2012 caused significant repairs to be required.

The trivia night is taking place on Saturday, April 13 at the church's hall. Tickets are $10 each or people can organize a team of 10 for $100.

Ten people will be seated at each table, with tables competing against each other in trivia games.

"They have six categories," Forrest said about trivia questions. "They are going to have six games."

A cash bar serving wine and beer will be offered.

To keep costs down, organizers have asked that each person bring a finger food snack with others at their table.

"We have some gift baskets. We will sell raffle tickets," Forrest said.

In addition raffling off gift baskets and a board filled with lottery tickets, the event will include a 50/50 draw.

For more information and tickets, call the church office at 604-526-6646.

The phone's answering machine has been experiencing some problems since the water leak, but is expected to be repaired soon.

In the meantime, the office is staffed Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
