The holiday season may have come to an end – but Shine Bright New West continues in New West.
Lisa Kemp, the city’s program coordinator of special events, said Shine Bright New West expands into the new year to include Lunar New Year and additional opportunities for the community to explore light displays. A variety of free activities have been planned to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, including cooking classes, a lucky banner workshop and a lantern making workshop.
Registration is required for most activities, but the Family Sky Lantern Workshop that’s taking place at Anvil Centre on Sunday, Jan. 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. is open for drop-in participation.
Folks who didn’t have a chance to check out light displays around the city in December still have time to see them before they’re gone.
“We would like to thank community members and partner organizations for embracing Shine Bright New West again this year and we look forward to building on the success for the 2023/2024,” Kemp said. “A highlight for many was the display at Hyack Square and the nature art sculptures throughout the community, and both will be coming back bigger and brighter. The current light displays will also be up until Jan. 31, 2023 if you haven’t had a chance to explore them yet.”
