Terry Fox Run at the Quay Sunday

Around Town

Royal City residents are invited to walk, run and wheel their way along the Quay in the annual Terry Fox Run.

Dr. Kathy Jones, who has coordinated the Terry Fox Run in New Westminster for the past several years, invites community members to take part in this weekend's years of being held in Queen's Park, the New Westminster run made the move to the flat terrain of Westminster Quay.

The run takes place on Sunday, Sept. 15, with registration getting underway at River Market at 9 a.m. and the run starting at 10 a.m. In addition to choosing whether they want to walk, run, bike, rollerblade or skateboard, people also have their choice of routes ranging from one to 10 kilometres.

See www.terryfox.org/Run for more information.

Alien landings Aliens are sent to land at Fraser River Discovery Centre.

Aliens Among Us, a travelling exhibition from the Royal B.C. Museum, will run at Discovery Centre from Sept. 28 to Dec. 7. The exhibit invites visitors to interact with some of B.C.'s bestknown and leastloved invasive species.

Visitors to the exhibit will learn assorted facts, such as how the American bullfrog arrived in British Columbia to supply a frog leg industry that never took off.

The public is invited to attend the exhibition's grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 28 during RiverFest: Inspired by the Fraser.

Guests will have a chance to speak with and learn from Melissa Fry, the Royal B.C. Museum's curator of invertebrates, during a presentation at 11 a.m. in the Discovery Centre's Canyon Theatre.

"The are over 4,000 alien species in the province and that number continues to grow each year," Gavin Hanke, curator of vertebrate zoology at the Royal B.C. Museum, said in a press release. "Some of these aliens are invasive - they spread quickly, threaten native wildlife and are hard to control."

American bullfrogs, Scotch broom, smallmouth bass and purple loosestrife are a few of the species featured in Aliens Among Us, one of three new exhibitions that will be displayed in the Upper Gallery of Fraser River Discovery Centre.
