The New Westminster Firefighters' Charitable Society will be shredding up a storm at their third annual shred-a-fest.
The society, which raises funds that it disperses to a variety of community groups, is holding a shred-afest on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Canada Games Pool parking lot.
"We have no limit as to the amount of paper you can bring. The only thing we ask is that it is in manageable-sized boxes," said firefighter Glen Bailey, president of the charitable society. "It's all by donation. Tax receipts will be issued for $25 or more."
All documents will be shredded onsite.
All proceeds will go to the charitable society, which funds projects such as the pediatric unit at Royal Columbian Hospital, breakfast programs at local schools and a community lunch at St. Barnabas Church.
"If you don't have anything you want shredded, by all means come by," Bailey said. "We welcome small businesses, we welcome large businesses. We would hope if a business comes by they would consider what they would pay a professional contractor and cut it. All the money is going to the New Westminster Firefighters' Charitable Society, which contributes back to the community."
Entertainment will be provided by some local youth affiliated with the New Westminster Youth Centre. The society will make a financial donation to the youth centre.
"The fire department is on hand, helping us out. We are hoping to have the fire trucks there," Bailey said. "A bunch of guys will be volunteering their time."
Re/Max will be providing tents to shelter people from the elements, G&F Financial will be providing popcorn, Tim Hortons will be providing treats and Urban Impact is supplying all the recycling.
