SALMONBELLIES SKATE FOR CHARITY

New Westminster Senior Salmonbellies will soon be hitting the ice at Queen's Park Arena.

Instead of taking to the wooden floor at Queen's Park Arena, the Bellies will be lacing up their skates for a charity hockey game against the New Westminster Police Service. The game takes place on Wednesday, March 21 at 7: 30 p.m.

Admission is by donation (minimum $5 per adult) or free for children under 12. All proceeds from the hockey game will go to the New Westminster Police Service's Cops for Cancer charity.

EASTER EGGS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Easter Seals paper eggs will soon be "hatching" in the Royal City.

Royal City residents can help support kids and families in the community who benefit from Easter Seals programs and services by purchasing a colourful paper egg for $2. People can write their name on the paper egg and have it displayed to show their support for Easter Seals.

Locally, residents can support the campaign at: Marketplace IGA (until March 31); Booster Juice at Royal Square mall (until April 8); and the city's three Money Mart locations (until April 8)

The B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities operates Easter Seal Camps, Easter Seal Houses, and provides patient care grants that help children and families from across British Columbia. Each year, more than 850 children with disabilities attend specialized camps and over 32,000 bed nights are used annually at Easter Seals houses.

AUNT LEAH'S HOLDS FUNDRAISER

Aunt Leah's Place hopes to raise some muchneeded funds to help with a housing program for new mothers.

The New Westminsterbased group is holding its 10th annual Lonely Hearts Club Band on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Polish Community Centre in Vancouver. The music benefit will include performances by former Royal City resident Rich Hope, as well as Van Django, Sarah Wheeler and Reid Jamieson.

"Over the past 10 years some of Vancouver's best musicians have lent their talent and time, playing their rendition of classic Beatles songs, in support of the crucial services that Aunt Leah's offers," said a press release.

Since 1988, Aunt Leah's Place has worked to prevent foster youth from becoming homeless and young mothers from losing custody of their children. All profits from the Lonely Hearts Club Band event will go toward the operational costs of Thresholds House, which is a supportive housing program for new mothers who face the threat of having their children taken into government care if they cannot secure safe housing and obtain extra supports for parenting and life skills.

Tickets for the event are $40 and are available at clubzone.com, Aunt Leah's Urban Thrift Store (177 East Broadway in Vancouver), 604-709-3254 or Theresa Frazao at 604-525-1204 (extension 224).
