The Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo is returning to New Westminster with what organizers say is its biggest show ever.
The expo will feature games, music, and experiences for attendees of all ages. It’s taking place at Anvil Centre on Saturday, June 22.
"This event has always been more than just a vendor hall,” show director Brian Hughes said in a news release. “It's an experience, and we're really happy with this year's selection of music, entertainment, and unique content."
Retro gaming enthusiasts attending this year’s event can play classic games from all eras; shop from a variety of vendors with games, art, and collectibles; learn about retro computing and gaming history; and attend panels with Brad Hodge (Tech Time Traveller), John Hancock, The Fictionals, and more.
The event also gives attendees an opportunity to enjoy video game musical acts on the main stage.
“This year VRGE is excited to announce a stellar lineup of music acts that will transport attendees back to the golden age of gaming,” said the news release. “Attendees can expect to hear chiptunes, classic video game soundtracks, and other retro-inspired music presented by Bonus Stage, including missingNo, Freaky DNA, The Wavebirds, The Koopa Troopas, ROM-hack, Pongball, Lena Raine, and dannyBstyle.”
The day’s interactive activities also allow folks of all ages to experience tournaments and e-sports gaming from Tetris to Smash Bros. and to have photo ops with mascots.
Organizers will also be hosting the Chilliwack Retro Computing Club, which will be showcasing its collections of vintage computers and consoles. The club’s members will be on hand to answer questions and share their passion for retro computing, as well as hosting panels on the TRS-80 and NABU computers.
