Spring is now officially here and as we turn our calendars to April, it's time to get out and about and enjoy the best the Royal City has to offer. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. We have some great offerings for this weekend in New Westminster.

1 Get supporting the Miss New Westminster Ambassador pageant, which takes place on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Massey Theatre. Tickets are $45 for adults, $22.50 for students, which includes a reception in the Plaskett Gallery. Optional pageant-only tickets are available for $15.

This year's contenders for the crown are Natasha Bosnjak, Maggy Deras-Rodriguez, Cyndi Lei, Maggie Rogal, Rachel Sibayan and Grace Wardle. For tickets and info, call the Hyack office at 604-522-6894.

2 Get curling for Bum Spiel, a charity curling event on Saturday, March 31, running from noon to 9 p.m. at the Royal City Curling Club.

This event raises funds and awareness for colorectal cancer and will also include doctors from the Netherlands in attendance. The event is open to people age 10 and up.

Tickets are $90 for a team of four or $25 per person, with dinner costing $25.

There will also be raffles, a 50/50 draw and door prizes. For more info, go to www.curling 4coloncancer.weebly.com.

3 Get thrifty on Saturday, March 31 for the Century House Association's annual thrift sale, running from 10: 30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 620 Eighth St. This free event includes bargains galore, with recycled treasures such as clothing, small appliances, jewelry, kitchenware, books, records and plants on sale. Go and find yourself a good deal and help a worthy cause at the same time.

4 Get eating on Saturday, March 31 for the Easter bake sale at Holy Eucharist Cathedral at 501 Fourth Ave. hosted by New Westminster's Ukrainian community. The sale goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features favourites such as babkas, paskas, perogies, cabbage rolls and more. For more info, call 604-526-0988.

5 Get exploring youth options in the city with the NuYu Popular Theatre project at New Westminster Secondary School on Friday, March 30 from 3: 30 to 5 p.m. The multicultural immigrant and refugee youth group uses popular theatre as a tool for participants to connect with each other.
