It may not be a long weekend, but that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of things to do around town. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top 5 (or More) Things to Do This Weekend:
1. Enjoy the comedic talents of WWE champion and hall of fame member Mick Foley, who brings his one-man spoken word stage show, Tales from Wrestling Past, to Lafflines. The show takes place on Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 and 10:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. For tickets, visit www.lafflines.com.
2. Celebrate New West WINS – Welcoming and Inclusive New West. You’re invited to bring your family and meet your neighbours and celebrate the diversity of New Westminster. Put on some traditional clothing and enjoy some fun activities, yummy food and great entertainment. The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Century House, 620 Eighth St.
3. Head to River Market for its second annual Great Canadian Winter Festival, which celebrates Canadian art, food and sport. Enjoy a game of Market Bingo, watch the Olympics at some of the shops, and check out the offerings at the Artisan’s Market on Saturday, Feb. 15. That’s the same time as the Royal City Farmers Market. 4. Check out Don Portelance’s paintings and Candice James’ words in the Ekphrasticism – Painted Words exhibit that is on at the Arts Council Gallery in Queen’s Park. The exhibit runs until Feb. 28 at the gallery that’s located in Centennial Lodge. The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
5. Try out one of the city’s newest offerings for foodies,The Hub, which recently opened in the Shops at New West Station on the SkyTrain level. The eatery features burgers, sandwiches, a weekend brunch and desserts. See www.hubrestaurant.ca.
