What's up this weekend?

Spring is almost in the air, and the days get longer starting Sunday when we turn our clocks forward. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

Spring is almost in the air, and the days get longer starting Sunday when we turn our clocks forward. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. We have some great offerings for the March 9 to 11 weekend in New Westminster:

1 Get informed with an overview of free legal resources in B.C., a presentation at the New Westminster Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. This presentation will allow newcomers to improve their knowledge of the Canadian legal and justice systems, rights and responsibilities, and the community resources available to them. The session will be conducted in English, with translation available in French, Chichewa, Nyanja, Lingala and Swahili. The library is located at 716 Sixth Ave. and is wheelchair-accessible. For more info or to register, phone SUCCESS at 604-430-1899 ext. 110.

2 Get literate for Leaf Press and Renaissance Books' book launch and reading for The Wild Weathers: a gathering of love poems, on Sunday, March 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Renaissance Books at 43 Sixth St. The book launch and reading will feature Berenice Freedome, Franci Louann, Lynda Grace Philippsen and guests. For more info, call 604-525-4566 or go to www.renaissancebookstore.com or www. leafpress.ca.

3 Get cultured with Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), the latest production by the Douglas College theatre and stagecraft departments. The play, which runs from March 9 to 17 at the Studio Theatre at Douglas College, room 4140 at 700 Royal Ave, tells the story of Constance, a modern-day academic who finds a new awareness of herself through dream-like experiences from Shakespeare's Othello and Romeo and Juliet. Tickets are $8 to $12 and available by calling 604-521-5050. For more info, go to www.douglascollege.ca.

4 Get educated at a home buyers' information workshop, running from 9: 30 to 11: 30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10 in lecture theatre 1614 at Douglas College, located at 700 Royal Ave. Put on by the Condominium Home Owner's Association of British Columbia, the free seminar is very popular, so pre-registration is required. Email info@ choa.bc.ca with details or call 604-584-2462, ext. 2.

5 Get registering for your Grade 6 Stay Active Pass. All Grade 6 students in the city are eligible to apply for a Stay Active card that will give them 10 free admissions to any drop-in recreation program offered by the city's parks, culture and recreation department. Get your forms back to the parks department by the final deadline of Friday, March 16 because applications will not be accepted after this date.
