The Massey Theatre is hosting a celebration of Métis culture for the next month.

The fun kicks off tonight (Friday, Sept. 27) with a Métis Culture Fair starting at 7 p.m. Tai Amy Grauman will host the event, which features music and stories, plus artists talking about how their heritage, culture and art intersect. Featured artists include Sandy Scofield, Andrea Menard and Charlene Wilson.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m., you can drop in to the theatre to take part in a Métis jigging workshop. Wilson will lead the session for all ages, starting with an introduction to the steps and followed by a session of social dancing where you can experience the joy of jigging.

On Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m., the theatre will host a Métis feast, with music from Scofield, Menard and Kim Brandt and dancing by Charlene Wilson, with food provided by Rosemary Georgeson and Barb Bennett Hospitality Services.

The Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre will also host the Métis Pairing exhibition, featuring work by Nicci Battilana and Monique Hurteau, throughout the month of October.

On Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., the theatre will host a workshop presentation of Grauman’s new play You Used to Call Me Marie, allowing the audience to witness the creation of a new theatrical work in progress.
