Choral music lovers will want to head down to Douglas College this Friday night.
On Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m., the Douglas College Chorale and the Douglas College Choral Society will hold a concert at the college's Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre.
An email from Hussein Janmohamed, conductor of the choral society, notes that the choirs will perform a "wonderfully eclectic" program, featuring work spanning the centuries, from Josquin to Schubert to Vancouver-based composer Jordan Nobles.
The feature work is Franz Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G Major.
Members of the instrumental ensemble and soloists for the piece are Douglas College music faculty. One of the tenor soloists is young lyric tenor Thomas Lamont, a longtime New Westminster resident.
The program also features Aether, Nobles' contemporary choral composition.
"This unique sonic presentation is filled with cultural nuance that we hope will envelop the audience with vocal beauty," Janmohamed said.
The Douglas College Beginning Choral Ensemble will join the chorale and choral society for the piece.
Sitarist and tabla player Mohamed Assani will join the choir on sitar.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors, free for students.
The Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre is on the fourth floor north at Douglas College, 700 Royal Ave., New Westminster (one block north of New Westminster SkyTrain).
