WHAT’S UP?
LitFest New West is back for its ninth annual celebration of all things literary.
WHEN AND WHERE?
Events run Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at 100 Braid Street Studios, Anvil Centre, River Market and Old Crow Coffee Co.
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
LitFest fun kicks off on Friday evening with Natural State: Three Poets, at 100 Braid Street Studios. A panel, moderated by Christina Myers, will feature poets Jonina Kirton, Rob Taylor and Isabella Wang.
Saturday features a wide range of writing workshops at Anvil Centre, including sessions presented by Royal City Literary Arts Society covering sensory writing, literary performance, flash fiction and Indigenous storytelling.
New West Writers will also hold a critiquing workshop on Saturday afternoon at Anvil Centre.
Over at Old Crow Coffee Company, the New Westminster Secondary School Creative Writing Club holds a slam poetry reading, and Laughter Zone 101 will present Stories from the Heart.
At River Market, the authors of the Wylde Wood Collective will showcase their writings in the Community Square (upstairs).
Saturday night’s featured event at River Market, Read Aloud: An Evening of Writers, features a presentation by poet laureate Alan Hill and a reading by the winners of the 2019 Darychuk Law Short Story Competition, plus a presentation by Frankie McGee and Q called Inking Intimate Interdependence.
WHO IS IT ALL FOR?
Anyone and everyone who’s interested: word nerds, lit lovers, writers, readers and those who are just curious about it all. The festival includes a range of diverse and inclusive events that offer space for everyone.
WHO PRESENTS LITFEST NEW WEST?
The event is presented by the Arts Council of New Westminster, New Westminster Public Library, the Royal City Literary Arts Society, New West Writers, the Federation of B.C. Writers and New West Hospice Society.
