Young New Westminster performers are being given a chance to share the stage with popular Vancouver band Hey Ocean!
Hey Ocean! will headline at the annual MOMENTUM Youth Arts Festival, presented by the MOMENTUM Youth Arts Movement (formerly Yam Jam).
The festival is running from Nov. 1 to 3.
Now organizers are searching for an act to take a spot on the roster as the openers for Hey Ocean!'s performance on Nov. 2 at Massey Theatre.
They've announced a Win the Moment competition, which gives local musical groups and artists a chance to compete for that spot.
The competition begins with online video/audio submissions, with a short list being selected for a Nov. 1 showcase.
During that showcase performance at the Massey Theatre, where audience members get to cast a vote for the winner.
The winner will be chosen based on both ticket stubs from the concert and Facebook shares.
Performers must be between the ages of 13 and 24 at the time of their submission, and they must be amateurs.
Applications are being accepted until Sept. 29.
The MOMENTUM festival will also include an art gallery of youth work, running from Oct. 31 to Nov. 10 at the Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre, plus a day of youth workshops on Sunday, Nov. 3 - more details to be announced in mid-October.
