Could you make a short film in 48 hours? These Lower Mainland filmmakers did — and they're celebrating their work at a bash in New Westminster this weekend.
RunNGun 2023, a 48-hour film competition, is hosting its annual awards event on Saturday, July 15 at Massey Theatre, with screenings, an awards show and an after-party.
RunNGun, established in 2015, sees filmmaking teams set out to make short films over the course of a weekend (this year, it was June 9 to 11).
Saturday's event will see a screening of semifinalists (places 21 through 40) starting at 3 p.m., followed by a mixer.
At 7 p.m., there will be a screening of the top 20 films, all of which are eligible for awards.
At 9 p.m., the awards show starts, honouring the cream of the crop from this year's entrants. Besides Best Film, there will also be awards for Best Student Film, Best Youth Film, Best Writing, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Performance, Best Ensemble, Best Overall Art, Best Editing and Best Sound.
A reception and after-party follows.
"Filmmakers from every team who submitted their film will be in attendance, as will industry professionals and sponsors, fans and supporters, and maybe a few folks who stumble in off the street," says a write-up from the contest. "Join us for Vancouver’s biggest celebration of independent filmmaking."
You can find out more about the competition at the RunNGun website. Tickets for the screening and awards night start at $29; buy online.
