Kids can get up close and personal with Boris Sichon's collection of "musical pets" as part of Culture Days celebrations.
Musician Boris Sichon, a multi-instrumentalist, will be at the River Market at the Quay on Sunday, Sept. 29.
His visit comes as part of the ArtStarts program, which works to provide innovative arts programs for young people.
A writeup about Sichon on the Culture Days website notes that when he was a boy, he didn't have a pet - but one day, a friend gave him a xylophone for his birthday, and it became his first "musical pet."
The Ukrainian-born Sichon pursued study of percussion instruments and worked with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, following that up with a professional career as a stage musician and actor. His website notes that touring with the Russian National Folkloric Band gave him an opportunity to perform in 25 different countries, on five different continents, where he started to collect traditional local instruments and learned to play from well-known musicians from their native regions.
Now Sichon has more than 300 different instruments in his collection, and he'll explore the world of percussion in his performance at River Market.
His show is designed for a young audience, ages three to 12.
He'll be performing at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m.
River Market is at 810 Quayside Dr.
