Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for Metro Vancouver.
Temperatures could reach 38 C in some areas to the region's northeast and southeast. In the City of Vancouver, highs may hit 37 C. With the humidex it could reach into the low 40s.
"A dangerous long duration heat wave will affect B.C. beginning on Friday and lasting until Tuesday," states the federal agency.
The alert covers everywhere from the City of Vancouver, Richmond, Delta and West Vancouver to Langley and Maple Ridge.

"Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place," they state. "Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle."
They warn about "heat illness." Symptoms to watch for include dizziness, fainting, vomiting, nausea, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, extreme thirst, decreased urination and unusually dark urination.
