Here’s a chance to work on your breath while listening to a kitten purr.
New West-based Move Studio’s new kitten yoga class is for those who don’t mind sharing their yoga mats with adorable kitties.
The “ultimate self-care” will allow yoga enthusiasts to indulge in a guided yoga session while in the company of fluffy kittens from Straight Outta Rescue, a volunteer-run animal rescue and charity.
As per the event's description, the class is a fundraiser for the Vancouver-based group that helps organize spay/neuter programs for animals in remote areas of B.C. The initiative helps improve animal welfare and reduce the burden on the animal rescue system.
So far, the program has helped over 150 dogs and cats in the Chilcotin region of B.C. get spayed or neutered — making sure they don’t deliver litters in winter when temperatures dip to -30 C, as mentioned on Move Studio website.
The class is on donation basis. All proceeds will go towards a spay/neuter clinic in Bella Coola in October.
As per the yoga studio’s Instagram post, the spots to the in-person session are limited; those who want to join in virtually can do so with a $12 registration fee.
However, if cuddling a kitty was what they looked forward to the most at this event, the studio will also be having a post-yoga "kitten therapy" that'll include fewer stretches and more chin scratches.
Kitten yoga class is between 2 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5. Sign up for the in-person kitten yoga session at Move New West workshops and for the online class at Move Studio website. The meet-and-greet session with the kitties is between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
