Metro Vancouver Transit Police are warning the public about card skimmers after Canada Line technicians discovered debit/credit card skimmers inserted at three Canada Line Compass Vending Machines (CVM).
Those who have used their debit or credit cards at the following stations are asked to check and ensure that their cards have not been compromised.
- Marine Drive Station - March 24 between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Vancouver City Centre Station - March 31 between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- YVR Airport Station - between 12 p.m. on March 31 and 8 a.m. on April 1
Transit Police have released photos of the card skimmers and are asking the public to help look for any other card skimmers. You can tell if a CVM has been altered by checking if the black camera above the pinpad has been covered.
“An unaltered CVM has a black camera above the PIN pad. A CVM with a skimmer has the black camera covered and a hole for a pinhole camera instead. The material used to cover the existing camera may also be peeling away from the CVM surface, or have signs of glue or tape,“ explain Transit Police in a press release.
Transit Police are warning the public to not touch a suspected card skimmer or anything in its area and to immediately report it to a Station Attendant or to Transit Police by phone at 604-515-8300 or by text at 87.77.77.
